Peaceful Dwelling Place You know how it feels when you have been working hard. Your body is bone weary and you wonder if you can press on. First, you drive forward for the sake of the goal. Then you might motivate yourself by calling to mind the importance of the task. Sometimes you can dig a little deeper into your reserves by thinking about others - the ones that will benefit from the effort, or the ones that you do not want to disappoint. June can be like that. You are pushing through the school year (as a student or a parent). Your day is not your own, the schedule is determined by others. The lines approach and there is the pressure of the final exam. It seems unrelenting. Everyone wants you to do "just one more thing". Yet, you find some hope and solace in the light at the end of the tunnel: summer is coming! Ah, sweet peace and undisturbed rest! Isaiah spoke the word of God to the nation of Judah in the midst of their pressures. Here God promises through the prophet: "The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest." (Isaiah 32:17-18). God is encouraging His people with these words. This seemed unbelievable. All they could see was strife, hard times, toil and suffering. But God said: "Till the Spirit is poured upon us from on high ..." (verse 15) - an event He had already planned - and then comes the blessing. Encourage each other with these words. We are the people of God. The Holy Spirit has been poured upon us from on high. "You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you." Isaiah 26:3 He has given us a peaceful dwelling place. Pastor Calvin [ Read the rest ... ]

God's Dwelling Place Psalm 84 "How lovely is the place where You live, O sovereign LORD! I desperately want to be in the courts of the LORD's temple. My heart and my entire being shout for joy to the living God." It is supposed that Psalm 84 was sung by pilgrims as they journeyed to the temple. As they traveled along, perhaps for many days, they might have joined in clusters of family groups. The older ones that had been to the temple before would encourage the younger ones - building the excitement with each step that brought them closer. "We're going to the temple!" "How happy are those who live in Your temple and praise You continually! How happy are those who find their strength in You, and long to travel the roads that lead to Your temple!" Then the big day arrived! They were actually in the temple of God. This is where God's presence is, just like He was in the tabernacle in the desert. Look at the exquisite workmanship; the design that came from God's mouth; the furnishings, each with deep meaning; the gold and wood contributed by thousands of God's people; and the man hours of dedicated service to build it and maintain it. No wonder the psalmist says: "I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God." "For the LORD God is our sovereign protector. The LORD bestows favor and honor, He withholds no good thing from those who have integrity. O sovereign LORD, how happy are those who trust in You!" Our church is God's dwelling place. Would you pray with me that the LORD would continue to bestow favor and honor on this place? The deacons, as good stewards, are considering how to address the remaining water leaks, the soiled carpet, and a few areas of drywall. Our Sovereign Protector withholds no good thing, as we have seen before. Let us trust in Him! Pastor Cal [ Read the rest ... ]

More than Conquerors “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or ness or danger or sword? As it is written: "For your sake we face all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35-39 So, there you have it—“WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS”. “Yea, right” might be your response…just like me at times. If this is a true statement (and IT IS) than why do I ‘feel’ like.. I AM MORE THAN CONQUERED.. so much of the time???? Simple—We have forgot…“Who Our God Is”. At least, this is what Jay told me years ago when I traveled all the way to LA to get some help and counseling for ‘all’ my problems. He was so right!! I had allowed the legitimate cares and struggles of life to silence ‘the song’ of my great salvation and relationship with Our Lord and Savior. The words of the Psalmist remind me that this is not a new feeling: “I was pushed back and about to fall, but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.” Psalm118:13-14 As you read the all of Psalm 118, you soon discover the prophetic promise in the words we all know.. “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it”. The reference is to the ‘Day’ when the Christ becomes our Salvation though His sacrifice for our sins. This is the Easter Story. It’s not about just ‘getting though’ another day.. but becoming ‘MORE THAN CONQUERORS’ because the ‘song’ in your heart and the ‘strength’ in your life comes from the God and Father who loves us enough to give us His Son for our salvation. When we recognize this we will declare with the Palmist: “You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you.” Psalm 118:28-29 Enjoy the Journey. Sons-In-Tents
Encouraging Spiritual Leadership
Hockinson Community Church endorses fellowship as a way to pass values from one generation to another. That is quickly apparent by our summer "in-reach" called "sons-in-tents". It looks a lot like a campout with dads and sons. You'll see marshmallows, smokey fire pits, tents and sleeping bags, ubiquitous camp chairs, coolers and fishing poles. Just check out the slide show: Click Here. But this campout is more than just a chance to get away from home with the guys. It is an intentional time for men to invest in boys - teaching them about real life situations and talking about what it means to be in love with God and live a life accordingly. Time is taken around the campfire to discuss and share. |
