Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. Psalm 33:12 NIV
The theme for the 2009 Vacation Bible School at Hockinson Community Church was “Wildwood Forest”. The event this year was held June 22nd through June 26th for all children going into kindergarten through 5thgrade. With over 100 kids in attendance on any given day, things definitely got pretty wild! There were snacks, games, songs, crafts, puppets, Bible memorization, singing, and LOTS OF SMILES! Best of all, 46 children gave their hearts to Jesus! If you missed VBS this year, be sure to watch for it next year - same time, same place!
A group of girls from Word Warriors, along with their leader, Iris Wellman, visited 10-year-old Shelby Lee in the hospital to provide some cheer and have a “princess day” for Shelby. Shelby just recently underwent fontan heart surgery. Here is what Iris had to say:
June 13th started out like any other day at Doernbecher, until the Royal Court of Princess Shelby arrived bearing gifts and Starbucks drinks to give her Royal Highness. They were greeted by their dear Princess with smiles and laughter and a silly lamb puppet! The girls had a marvelous time visiting their favorite princess but more importantly, seeing first hand that God is faithful and that Shelby is doing super duper! They were able to play with the “distraction” machine and also spent a lot of time with the controls on Shelby’s bed. Hospital beds can sit up pretty high!!!
As you know, Shelby is a Word Warrior and on April 22nd (officially in the presence of her Word Warrior friends) gave her heart to the Lord Jesus. She is now officially a daughter of the MOST HIGH KING –a princess– a royal heir.
We rejoice with her family at how God is working in her life…
Abby Spencer, Emily, Olivia , and Debi O’dell, Angela Schuh, Jill and Iris Wellman,
Once again, the little community of Hockinson pulled together to create a monumental event. There were comments of surprise and delight from first-time attendees. From the pancake breakfast at Fire Dist. #3, to the parade, bazaar, food stands, and so much more, smiles were seen everywhere. On top of that, God provided beautiful, sunny weather - perfect for shooting water at the bystanders, right John Z? And of course, the HCC float, complete with a waterfall and lots of “wildwood” decor, took first place! As kids from HCC were handing out candy and flyers to promote Vacation Bible School, gasps of delight could be heard. Next stop - VBS June 22nd - 26th, 9am to noon, for all kindergarten through 5th grade. No charge. See you there!
